Thanks to one of my astronomy Facebook friends, I watched a video on Faster Than Light Travel (don’t get your hopes up) by Veritasium (an element of truth), which led me to this excellent post on the Problem with Facebook:

There’s something rotten in the state of online video streaming, and the data is starting to emerge — Tech News and Analysis

Unfortunately ISPs gloss over the real debate, which is whether transit providers, content companies and CDNs should have to pay to peer — that is, pay for the right to deliver all of the traffic that an ISP’s users are demanding — given that the end user has paid the ISP to deliver the content the user has asked for?

It’s a long article but full of insights into the battle for broadband going on v out of sight and mind of most consumers.

I am appalled this is happening in my home state.  I want Time Warner to have to compete against anyone else in the broadband market in municipality.  It galls me to no end that Time Warner sits on its hind end and provides inferior service while enjoying a monopoly blessed by my own city government.

I use Twitter much more these days than I do Facebook.  I’ve locked down ally personal information months ago and I did not include phone or address info even then. If a “friend” I don’t personally know sends a request for such information, the non response silence will be deafening.

I was a bit surprised to read an article on net neutrality from my local metropolitan newspaper.  Good balanced one too.
