Friday morning wake up call.

Don’t trust anything … especially USB sticks from strangers.

Celebrating 18 Years as an “IT Hero”

My 17th year as a member of Information Technology for the law firm that currently employs me went out with somewhat of a bang last night.  I won’t share the details here to protect the innocent (take that with a grain of salt!), but I will share this apropos video and leave you wondering about my true feelings.

I’ll crack open a new bottle of wine tonight to inaugurate my 18th year and pray that my smartphone doesn’t beep off my end table in the middle of the night and remains quiet until Monday morning.

Here’s to just 17 more years until I’m allowed to retire (according to Social Security).  Let’s hope I don’t go insane before then.

Happy Friday!

The Flip Side Of Net Neutrality.  So far Time Warner hasn’t instituted data caps for my home Internet but Comcast could change that in the future.

I need to read my Terms of Service more closely.  I had planned on passing on my password archive to my descendants but that may actually be prevented according to the ToS.

Only the government or the military could suffer from a Y2K bug fifteen years after the fact.

I am not surprised.

Finally, A Way To Find Movies Worth Watching On Netflix

I’ll give this site a try this weekend.  This is exactly why i don’t like Netflix streaming: I am not going to waste my time slogging through the slush pile of Rotten Tomatoes to find that one priceless pearl of a movie to watch.  There’s always a great book waiting on my shelf to read commercial free and quiet.

This Rule About Drone Surveillance Is Just Plain Absurd — And Scary

Io9 posted this article via Facebook with the tag line “I can’t believe this is legal.”  Neither can I.  I’m starting to feel like I need to develop a dome for my back yard to foil the government peeping Toms.

Time to write my elected officials.

It’s articles like these that make me wish I’d stuck it out to become an electrical engineer.

Reminder to self: make sure Time Warner Road Runner Internet service does NOT include this new feature.

If it does (or might soon since Comcast bought them) … opt out!!!
