I dialed a phone number yesterday that I’ve had memorized all my life … literally. It’s the phone number I grew up with. It was the first phone number I learned. I dialed it from my work phone, and it rang and rang and never got answered by the answering machine. Odd, I though to myself. Next, I tried my cell phone. Almost immediately I got the “You have reached a phone number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service” message. That got my attention.

I’ll give this site a try this weekend. This is exactly why i don’t like Netflix streaming: I am not going to waste my time slogging through the slush pile of Rotten Tomatoes to find that one priceless pearl of a movie to watch. There’s always a great book waiting on my shelf to read commercial free and quiet.

Puzzled
Last year, my daughter gave me a puzzle for my birthday. Last week, in a fit of household reorganizing (aka decluttering), I decided it was high time I cracked open this box to see if I could still climb the puzzle mountain.
Being only 550 pieces, I did not feel daunted at the prospect. My grandmother and I used to put together three or five thousand piece puzzles during the summer months when I was in grade school.
Find an Island of Stars at Powell Obsevatory Tomorrow Night
A quick shout-out to everyone in the Kansas City metro area to come on down to the Powell Observatory tomorrow night.
Our scheduled program is entitled “Island of Stars” and the weather looks very promising.
I volunteer as part of Team 2 (one of several teams staffed by members of the Astronomical Society of Kansas City). I’m looking forward to meeting many new people and introducing them to the many wonders of the night sky.
More Powell Observatory Information:
The observatory is staffed by ASKC volunteers and is open to the public every Saturday night from the beginning of May through the end of October. The Star Bright Saturday Night Programs begin at dusk and include program presentations on astronomy, tours of the observatory, and (if the skies are clear) viewing through the various telescopes of the moon, planets, stars, star clusters and more! A donation of $6 per adult and $4 per child is suggested to help support the observatory and allow it to continue operations open to the public.

Main Bathroom Remodel Marathon Finish Line in Sight

Hatching and Hatched
Yesterday I reported that my back porchlight housed a squatter. A robin’s nest rests atop it complete with Mother Robin and her eggs. Later in the evening, I checked the nest and the robin had flown off to find her own dinner.
I managed to get a blurry shot of the nest’s contents. I had to do this while standing on a chair, hiding inside the house and leaning out with just my smartphone hovering over the nest. I couldn’t see the screen and snapped a couple of photos to pick the best to show here.
Places to Avoid Walking During My Lunch Break
This year for Mother’s Day my kids bought me a Fitbit Flex. I got it setup late last week and have gradually increased my walking, both at home during the evenings and at work over part of my lunch hour.
Monday I headed out of my building and eventually ended up along the banks of Brush Creek (sometimes referred to as Flush Creek), which flows east along the south side of the Country Club Plaza. As you can see from the photo above, I will most likely NOT be retracing my steps on this route in the near future.
